Title:              Theology Teacher
Supervisor:    Principal and Dean of Theology Department

The position includes duties as a classroom teacher, Theology curriculum owner, and active contributor to the overall growth of students at St. Thomas High School.



        
           Required Experience and Essential Job Functions
  • Is a practicing Catholic who will act as a model of the faith for their students.
  • Be willing to teach in accordance with the doctrine of the Catholic Church.
  • Understands and accepts the fact that the school is operated in accordance with the philosophy of Catholic education.
  • Accepts and supports the ongoing building and living of a Faith Community, not simply as a concept to be taught, but as a reality to be lived in worship, service, and interpersonal relationships.
  • Relates to the students in an adult Christian manner and contributes to the student's sense of self-worth as a Christian person.
  • Fosters the apostolic consciousness of students by encouraging them to join in experiential learning activities that give witness to Christian justice and love.
  • Encouraging and supporting efforts in Catholic education by fostering the distribution and implementation of both universal Church documents on education as well as related documents developed by the bishops of the United States.
  • Work collaboratively with your Dean and department PLC to build curriculum, create assessments, review best practices, and create clear daily goals for academic instruction.
  • Attend all PLC meetings and other faculty meetings that will arise throughout the school year.
  • Attend the retreats and offer support to the Campus Ministry program.
  • Communicate with families on their son’s progress on a regular basis.
  • Attend the different faith formation events offered through Campus Ministry when possible.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with your students both inside and outside the classroom.
  • Help the Dean of Students office with supervision duty when called upon.
  • Get involved in the life of the school outside of the classroom, whether this is coaching or sponsoring a club.
  • Pray for your students' success!
Preferred Qualifications
  • Holds a graduate degree
  • Has completed 12 credit hours in education courses or holds a valid state teaching certificate
  • Has prior teaching experience at high school or college level
  • Has prior teaching experience in advanced or AP level high school courses
Function Statement
Essential and important responsibilities and duties may include but are not limited to the following:
  • Teach 1-3 sections of Theology in a Catholic college preparatory environment.
  • Additional duties include a section of study hall and/or section of substitute coverage.
  • Actively pursue professional growth and continually strive to improve curriculum and instruction.
  • Willingly take on responsibilities above and beyond classroom duties.
  • Cheerfully perform duties required of all faculty members as outlined in employment contract.
  • Someone who has a passion and zeal for teaching
  • Who actively participates in the sacraments and someone who will push our students to achieve their best academically, while also challenging them in their faith life.
