Title:               Algebra 1/ Algebra II Math Teacher (Full-Time)
Year:              2026-2027 School Year

Supervisor:    Principal and Dean of Math Department
FLSA:            Exempt

The position includes duties as classroom teacher, Math curriculum owner, and active contributor to the overall growth of students at St. Thomas High School.

Required Experience and Essential Job Functions
This position requires a professional who:
  • Holds a bachelor’s degree or above.
  • Has a minimum 24 hours of college level mathematics courses.
  • Has completed 12 credit hours in education courses or holds a valid state teaching certificate.
  • Is passionate about teaching math skills to young men.
  • Supports and implements the philosophy of Catholic education.
  • Participates in building faith community.
  • Serves as a content expert and seeks out opportunities to expand his or her knowledge.
  • Works collaboratively with your Dean(s) and department Professional Learning Community (PLC) to build curriculum, create and reflect on assessments, review best practices, and create clear daily goals for academic instruction
  • Exhibits a growth mindset and continually improves the way he or she operates.
  • Masters diverse teaching styles and thoughtfully selects the appropriate teaching style for the material and students.
  • Often works as a co-learner in the classroom, allowing for student-led questioning, discussion and student-developed assignments.
  • Assigns homework intentionally, sometimes asking students to recall or apply information but often asking them to analyze, evaluate or create.
  • Embraces classroom technology and uses it as a tool for learning (Microsoft products, Google apps and classroom functionality such as SmartBoards or other interactive white boards).
  • Creates and timely posts robust lesson plans which align with curriculum, instruction and assessments, and integrates technology into the curriculum.
  • Uses instructional time efficiently and effectively.
  • Evaluates student progress effectively, keeping records and reports required by the school.
  • Constantly evaluates course lesson plans to align with best practices and updated knowledge.
  • Builds appropriate and professional mentor relationships with students.
  • Values student and teacher wellness.
  • Follows directives of the principal and regulations as set forth in the school employee handbook.

Preferred Experience and Characteristics
  • Advanced degree in mathematics or education
  • Prior teaching experience at middle school, high school or college level.
  • Experience teaching advanced high school math courses.

This Position
  • Ability to teach Algebra I and Algebra II, including at the advanced level for each course.
  • Receives immediate support from the Dean of the Math Department, from the instructional leadership team, and from the Learning Enrichment Center team; in addition to supervision by and additional support from the Principal and the Assistant Principal.

Function Statement

Essential and important responsibilities and duties may include but are not limited to the following:
  • Teach 5 sections of mathematics in a Catholic college preparatory environment.
  • Additional duties include a section of study hall and/or section of substitute coverage.
  • Actively access professional development materials and continually adjust and improve curriculum.
  • Excitedly take on responsibilities above and beyond classroom duties.
  • Normal duties required of all faculty members as outlined in employment contract.
